2022 Green Purchasing Awards Announced
The University of Pennsylvania's 2022 Green Purchasing Awards were recently granted to Danielle Cavalcanto, Associate Director of Interiors with the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM) and the Division of Finance's Disbursements Department. Presented by Penn Procurement Services and Penn Sustainability, in alignment with Penn's Climate and Sustainability Action Plan 3.0, the Green Purchasing Awards recognizes the leading actions of any individual or team that advances the development of sustainable purchasing practices at Penn.
Danielle Cavalcanto was recognized for instilling sustainable factors in her interior designs, frequently matching inventory in storage to newly configured workspaces. In FY22, her reuse of PSOM furniture saved over $230,000. Her work has led to sustainability sourced products for over 14% of PSOM's total capital purchases in FY22.
The Division of Finance's Disbursements Department includes Tamiko Allen, Yvonne Allen, Bob Bonhage, Sarah Boyer, Virginia Drier, Laurissa Helton, Crystal Hugh, Donna Jastrzebski, Michelle Miller, Kim Montgomery, Renee Nowaczyk, Shanel Plummer, Mike Popko, Ty Saekouay, and Lisa Smith. Over the past year their team succeeded in going 100% paperless in its processing of Purchase Order and Non-Purchase Order invoices, decreased the number of paper checks issued to suppliers, increasing electronic payments by 18%, and launched the new Greenphire ClinCard platform that offers a virtual VISA ClinCard.
